Vance Cravens Memorial Scholarship

Every year a young adult heads off to college. With tution, book fees, lab fees & dorm expenses, these students often look for scholarships & financial aid to help with the soaring costs of higher education. As a member of the Northern Ohio Draft Pony Association, your children have the opportunity to apply for the Vance Cravens Memorial Scholarship to help offset these costs. You must be an active member, child or grand child of an active member to be able to apply for this scholarship.

The Vance Cravens Memorial Scholarship was started in 1991 in memory of Vance Cravens, son of Butch & Judy Cravens, for those who choose to better their lives by going on to a higher level of education.

On February 9, 2008 at the Dutch Heritage Restaurant in Bellville Ohio, three young adults were presented with the Vance Cravens Memorial Scholarhip. Those presented were Jackie Bowman, Brianna Bowman, and Jed Bookman. An auto-biography of all three recipients will be published shortly!

Brianna Bowman

My name is Brianna Bowman; I am the daughter of Jay and Tracie and the granddaughter of Jack and Bea Bowman. I am currently a freshman attending school at The Ohio State University. I am majoring in Middle Childhood Education with an emphasis in Mathematics and Science. Upon completion of my undergraduate work, I will go to school for a year to finally graduate with my Masters Degree in education. After graduation, I hope to eventually become a Middle School principal.

Throughout the school year, I have been working in the Student Financial Aid Office. I hope to find a job somewhere close to home this summer. My family continues to stable at both the Cuyahoga and Lorain County Fairs and to attend several other one day shows throughout the summer.

I have helped with the NODPA from the time I was able to walk. At the sales, I set up stalls, sold raffle tickets, ran numbers, and helped my grandparents in the food stand. During the time that my Uncle Mike was show chairman, I helped with whatever he needed. I continue to help at both the sales and show as much as my college schedule permits.

I would like to personally thank the NODPA for selecting me as a recipient of the Vance Cravens Memorial Scholarship. It will be very helpful when paying for my tuition, books and other college expenses.

Jaqueline Bowman

My name is Jaqueline Bowman, I am the daughter of Scott and Lori and granddaughter of Jack and Bea Bowman. I am in my second year of school attending the Lorain County Community College. I am majoring in education with a concentration in history and english. For my first year at college I attended Bowling Green State U. and decided to come home because I missed my family and friends.

During the school year and the summer I work part time for the Village of Wellington and coordinate all the events that take place in the gymnasium. Also during the summer my family and I go to the Cuyahoga and Lorain County Fairs.

I have helped many years at the NODPA show and sales and will continue to participate as my college schedule permits.

I would like to thank the NODPA for the scholarship, it has been very helpful the last couple years in paying my tuition.
